General FAQ's
Below are some common questions we are asked.
Mary is open:
- Wed & Thursday: 10am til 3pm (kitchen closes at 2pm)
- Friday: 10am til 4pm (Kitchen closes at 3pm)
- Saturday & Sunday: 10am til 4pm ( if 4pm session is offered closing time is 6pm)
Mary is closed on public holidays for in-house dining/delivery and pick-ups.
Brunswick can be a little tricky because people usually get to venues on fixie bikes with baskets, but there are usually spots along Sydney Road or off-street parking.
There is plenty of parking available at Montrose.
Mary delivers all across Melbourne Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Of course! Mary gift vouchers are a popular gift of choice. They can be purchased here.
Yes! Children aged from 2-10 years old can enjoy our Children’s High Tea which is from $45 per child.
Children aged 1 and under can attend free of charge, please call or email us if you require a high chair.
Brunswick bookings we suggest leaving the pram at home and bringing a baby carrier as you may be seated upstairs with no lift access.
Brunswick
Brunswick has rooms located both downstairs (Main Tea House) and upstairs (three smaller function rooms). The upstairs rooms are up approx 25 steps and there is no lift access and is therefore not wheelchair accessible. The downstairs space has ramp access through the front door and there are 2 small steps to the downstairs toilets.
Montrose
Montrose has ramp wheelchair access from the entrance at the back of the venue.
We also have an accessible toilet at this venue. The front entrance does have a number of stairs on entry to the venue.

High Tea is an experience with set session times and a set menu. Each High Tea comes with four savoury items, three sweet items and unlimited tea and scones. We require full pre-payment for all High Tea bookings. View package options here.
We have fabulous packages on offer for birthdays, baby showers, bridal showers/hens & kitchen teas! However Mary just loves to host any kind of party, so just let us know!

Common questions about dining with Mary!
It is one of life’s great joys! High Tea is a selection of savoury items, sweets, fluffy scones and artisan teas. We serve 8 items per person and a selection of handcrafted teas in vintage tea ware.
All High Tea sittings are required to be pre-booked. Mary is a popular venue and we cannot guarantee availability of a table should you drop in.

Just make sure to have your wallet nearby as we do require full pre-payment.
If you are booking a table in our tea house you can book anywhere from 1 to 12 guests.

Yes, Mary caters for the following:
- Vegetarian

- Low Gluten
- Low Gluten & Vegan
- Halal
All our products may contain traces of seafood, wheat/gluten, egg, dairy, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, seeds, garlic and onion.
Our products are made in a kitchen where allergens are used, and as such, we cannot guarantee that our products are completely free of all traces. Caution should especially be taken for people who are highly sensitive or have severe allergies.
Mary Eats Cake does not recommend our High Tea, or other products to those who are anaphylactic to nuts or gluten or seafood.
Yes! Of course, please note that there is a $2 charge per take home box required.

Yes, each room as a private room hire fee. View our private rooms for hire.
Yes, once Mary has checked your date, time and room request, you will be sent details on how to pay a deposit.
The deposit is non-refundable and ensures that Mary’s team can hold the private room exclusively for you and your function. This amount is removed from your final invoice and all functions are required to be paid in full 7 days prior to the event date.
We do not offer room hire for external catering but welcome you to view the range of High Tea packages available for functions hosted in the private rooms.
Mary is open Wednesday to Sunday and we offer the following session times for private functions.
Wednesday & Thursday
11am, 12pm and 1pm
Friday
11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm
Saturday & Sunday
10am, 1pm and 4pm.
Each session runs for 2 hours. Additional hours may be purchased should you wish for a longer sitting (subject to availability).
Of course! Mary loves a bit of extra sparkle. In fact, Mary offers premium flower decorating for the room at a flat rate of $390.
Mary can also allow an additional 15 minutes prior to the start time of your booking should you wish to set up your own decorations such as balloons, flowers, table runners, cookies and nappy towers etc.
All decorations must be taken away with you at the end of your function.
Please note we do not allow confetti. There will be a $50 clean up fee charged on the day if there is confetti and decor left in the room.
Once final numbers are secured (1 week before your event) there are no refunds if guests are unable to attend– you will be provided with additional food on the day!
Yes, you can! There is a $3.50pp cakeage fee to bring your own cake.
Mary offers a range of celebration cakes for you to add to your function. There is no cakeage fee for a cakes purchased from us.

Dietary requirements
Below are common dietary and allergy related questions. Please contact us for more information on your specific circumstances.
Whilst we do offer a low gluten option Mary Eats Cake does not recommend that a person who is coeliac dine at our restaurants due to the traces of gluten that may be present in the venue.
Low gluten means that the product contains less than 200ppm (parts per million) of gluten.
Low gluten products "are not recommended for those on a gluten free diet" by Coeliac Australia.
Yes, we have a Halal menu for both our traditional high tea and brunch high Tea.

No, Mary can only offer so many dietary options and fructose free is unfortunately one we don't cater for.
No, we are not able to make individual custom items for people. This open's up room for error and the last thing we want to do is make a mistake when you are celebrating a special occasion!
Our chefs work hard all week preparing our menu items to ensure everyone receives a yummy High Tea. It takes time to create and test menu items to ensure they are delicious and suit specific dietary requirements.
In certain circumstances yes, however a minimum fee is payable.

No, High Tea is traditionally high in sugar and carbs and is typically not suitable for diabetics.
We would still love for you to attend and recommend consuming in moderation and taking any treats you don't finish home to enjoy later or share with family members.
No, Mary can only offer so many dietary options and low FODMAP is unfortunately one we don't cater for.

Pick-up is available between 9.30am - 2:30pm Tuesday to Sunday from our Montrose venue 13 Leith Road, Montrose
Pick-up is available Wednesday to Sunday between 9.30am - 2:30pm from Brunswick venue 558 Sydney Road, Brunswick
No, we cannot guarantee specific delivery times.
Our driver’s schedules change each day and therefore we cannot provide a specific delivery time.
All orders will arrive between 9:30am and 4pm on the date that you select.
The recipient will receive a text alert when the order is on its way to the contact details provided on your order.
As our products do not arrive hot, you may wish to order them a day prior and refrigerate the product.
No, this is so that you can heat them up fresh in your own home.
You may want to order your product a day beforehand and keep it in the fridge.
