Galentine's Day

What is Galentines Day?

‘It’s only the best day of the year’ it a day all about ‘ladies celebrating ladies’ (Lelise Knope Parks and Recreation season 2 ep.16. ) Each year Galentines day falls on the 13th of February- the day before valentines day- however we believe you can celebrate Galentines any day throughout February. Galentines is a special day to celebrate the love you have for your beautiful friends. The day first appeared on the popular tv show Parks and Recreation in 2010 and was invented by the fictional character Leslie Knope who would get her girlfriends together to celebrate each other over breakfast.  Galentines day isn’t a day for single women to go out, it’s a holiday for all women whether they are coupled up, in a situationship or single.

What to do for Galentine's Day?

If you are going off the origin of the unofficial holiday brunch/ breakfast would be the ‘correct’ way to celebrate however here at Mary Eats Cake we believe you can tailor your Galentines to suit your friendship circle preferences! Here is a list of 5 fun things to do this Galentine's day!

1. Host a dinner party:

Invite your closest friends to your home for a love and friendship-themed dinner party.

Decorate your dining table with pink, red and white. Pick up a bunch of flowers and baby’s breath and place them in petite vases-  you can thrift these)  and you can even add a few tapered candles as a centrepiece. Make dinner together or order takeout and order something from a local patisserie or cafe such as Mary Eats Cake for dessert. At Mary Eats Cake we love cake and as the name implies eating it too and we have lots of options for your hosting needs this Valentine day!

Organise a paint-and-sip night with your girlfriends and unleash your inner artist. This is a brilliant way to catch up and have a laugh while creating beautiful memories and keepsakes. Set up a craft area at a dining table with easels, paint, canvases and of course wine glasses. TIP: don’t forget to put down drop sheets to protect any furniture. You can either freestyle your artwork, follow a YouTube tutorial or purchase a paint-by-numbers.  Have everyone bring along a bottle of their favourite wine to share and paint the night away! Make the night even better with the addition of delicious sweets to share!

5. Cocktail Party

Valentine's Day is during summer in Australia and that calls for refreshing cocktails! Invite your friends over for a cocktail night. Everyone needs to bring the ingredients to make a cocktail for the group!  At Mary’s, we love a strawberry Mojito for Valentine's Day. To make a strawberry mojito muddle strawberries and mint together, add rum and lime then top up with lemonade.
